Hi !!!!
Welcome to "Wife Line", I am glad to hear from you.
Just a little about "Wife Line"...I started the newsletter in 1994 and continued for 3 years. In 1996 we sold our home in Connecticut and have been traveling since. My husband, now 100% PTSD, was having trouble with his job of 20 years as a jet engine mechanic and just being in one place...so we sold our beautiful 7 room home and moved into a tent for about 8 months, then a van for 2 months and finally a 5th wheel trailer, which we are still living in.
It was too difficult to do the newsletter on the road, but about 2 years ago Bruce from the Framingham, MA Vets Outreach Center ( where my husband and I were going for counseling at the time) suggested putting "Wife Line" on the web page for me...now I am trying to get the whole newsletter going again, this time on the computer. I sent out 250 letters to all the Vet Centers in the U.S. and all the past subscribers...now I'm just waiting to see if it will catch on.
"Wife Line is for loved ones who live with veterans...especially wives!!! I am hoping they will write and tell me what is going on in their lives, ask questions to other wives, give any helpful advice to other wives, write in poems or stories they or their vet has written...ALL TO BE SHARED WITH EVERYONE WHO READS "WIFE LINE"...
It is a way to get help with problems...or help others with their problems!!!
If you don't want to have what you write on the web site, but want to discuss a problem, maybe I can help...I have been married to 2 Nam vets, my 1st husband of 17 years, while he was in Country...I have now been married to my second husband for 16 years and have learned about PTSD.
Have you read Patience Mason"s book "Recovering From The War"? It is a GREAT book for wives and other loved one to read. Also "Vietnam Wives" by Aphrodite Matsakis is a very helpful book, letting you know, YOU ARE NOT ALONE! And "Lonely Girls With Burning Eyes" is really good, especially if you were married to your vet while he was "in Country". Any of the BOOKS WORTH READING, reviewed in the newsletters are worth reading...My other suggestion is to find out if there is a book written about your vets outfit from Nam...doesn't have to be the same time period...but it may tell you more about what he did in Nam...not always a pretty picture, but things we should know about our vet.
Please feel free to share any information you have that may be helpful to another wife, veteran, or loved on of a veteran...I WILL ADD IT TO THE "WIFE LINE" WEB PAGE...
I hope that tells you a little about "Wife Line" and also a little about me...Hope to hear from you again...SOON!!!
SOMEONE CARES
I thought it might be a good idea to have a list of e-mail addresses so we could contact each other. If you would like your e-mail on this page, please fill out the following questions and we will post your responses on a separate 'Someone Cares' page.
e-mail address.........
branch of service your vet served in........
years he served....years in Vietnam........
tell us something about YOU, just a sentence or two...
tell us something about your vet, just a sentence or two.........
do you have any questions for others.........
do you have any advice that may be helpful to others...
I AM HOPING TO GET THIS GOING FOR ALL OF US, SO WE CAN TALK TO EACH OTHER IN THE PRIVACY OF OUR HOMES. I WISH WE COULD ALL FIND A GROUP AND GET TOGETHER ONCE A WEEK, BUT MAYBE THIS WILL WORK BECAUSE YOU CAN E-MAIL SOMEONE FROM THE LIST WHO MAY HAVE THE SAME LIFE STYLE AS YOU, AND DISCUSS YOUR GOOD DAYS AND NOT SO GOOD DAYS WITH HER.
"A Beautiful Woman"
Everyone needs to be told they're great so here's to YOU!
To an exceptionally beautiful woman!
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears,
the figure that she carries,
or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen within her eyes,
because that is the doorway to her heart,
the place where love resides.
The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole.
But true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.
It is the caring that she lovingly gives,
the passion that she shows,
and the beauty of a woman with passing years - only grows!
YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN! ! Please send this to five phenomenal women today, for if you do, something good will happen - you will boost another woman's self-esteem.
Laughter is the joyous, universal, evergreen of life!
With hope of peace in our lives,
Marie...Editor of "Wife Line"
